Near Brasov, Romania
The mist sat thickest over the Romani hamlet. As we made our way in, the firm frozen underfoot turned to village squelch. I could hear murmurings of speech drifting out from the thick white. We continued in for a short time.
On either side, rough-cut timber, corrugated steel and mud bricks had been thrown together again and again over the years to finally form a settlement. A woman and two children came out of the fog. Understanding i think, that we were lost, she motioned a direction we should follow and then seemed to dissolve away again.
The air was clearing as we came upon two kids. They saw we were outsiders and frenzy set in. One seized a tree, playing for the camera. The other approached me playfully.
Id seen this game before but not played better. While his friend distracted me with the tree he tried to unhook my spare camera from its strap claiming to want to have a look. We decided not to see where this game would end, it was getting late and time to leave.
